Baking is something I've always loved from an early age, starting with helping my mum and nan making tea loaves and cakes, then baking for family and friends, before then making my own wedding cake. Voluntary redundancy from a previous career in translation gave me the chance to invest fully in my passion, and so here I am today!
Whilst I am mostly self-taught, I have also taken various specialised courses to refine my skills. Many hours have been spent at cake decoration evening classes at a local college, a cake shop and online floral cupcake tutorials, not to mention all the practising at home. My husband and our two little boys are all too happy to taste-test where necessary, of course.
As well as the technical expertise, being in the food industry means that safety is extremely important. I am up to date with the appropriate regulations for professional home bakers, namely Food Safety Level 2 and have been awarded the top 5-star rating in Food Hygiene by my local council at my recent home kitchen inspection.
